Description

This Strawberry and Orange Salad with Citrus Syrup is a light, refreshing fruit salad made with juicy strawberries, fresh orange segments, a simple homemade citrus syrup, and fresh mint. Perfect for brunch, summer gatherings, picnics, or a healthy dessert, this easy recipe comes together with just a handful of fresh ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and halved (or quartered if large)
  • 3 oranges
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste
  • 2½ tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh mint
  • Fresh mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash, hull, and halve the strawberries. Place them in a large serving bowl.
  2. Cut the top and bottom off each orange. Using a sharp knife, remove the peel and white pith.
  3. Working over the serving bowl, carefully cut the orange segments from between the membranes.
  4. Squeeze the remaining orange membranes into a small bowl to collect the fresh orange juice.
  5. Stir the lemon juice and brown sugar into the orange juice until the sugar dissolves completely.
  6. Pour the citrus syrup over the strawberries and orange segments.
  7. Gently toss to coat the fruit evenly.
  8. Sprinkle with the chopped fresh mint.
  9. Taste and add a little more lemon juice if you’d like a brighter flavor.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 6 hours.
  11. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm strawberries for the best texture.
  • Fresh oranges are essential for the sweetest citrus syrup.
  • Chill before serving to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Add blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries for extra color.
  • Best enjoyed the same day but can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
