Description

These Italian Chicken Burgers are juicy, flavorful, and loaded with Italian-inspired ingredients like Parmesan, garlic, marinara, mozzarella, and pesto. Perfect for busy weeknights or summer cookouts, these easy chicken burgers are a delicious twist on the classic burger that the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ¼ cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons marinara sauce, plus extra for serving
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 tablespoons pesto
  • ½ cup baby spinach or arugula

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic, green onions, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the ground chicken and gently mix until evenly combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties.
  4. Refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook the patties for 4–6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. Spoon about 1½ tablespoons of marinara sauce over each patty and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Broil on HIGH for 1–2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Spread pesto on the top buns. Add spinach or arugula to the bottom buns, place the burgers on top, add extra marinara if desired, then finish with the top buns.
  10. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Refrigerating the patties helps prevent them from falling apart while cooking.
  • Always cook ground chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Toast the buns for extra texture and flavor.
  • Arugula adds a peppery bite, while spinach offers a milder flavor.
  • Leftover patties can be refrigerated for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Great served with potato salad, pasta salad, or crispy fries.
