These Gyro Bowls are packed with juicy Greek-style meatballs, creamy homemade tzatziki, fluffy lemon rice, and a crisp cucumber tomato salad. It’s a fresh, flavor-loaded Mediterranean dinner that tastes like takeout but is easy enough for busy weeknights.

For the Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground lamb (or beef)
  • ¼ cup minced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup finely crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Greek seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Tzatziki

  • 12 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • ½ European cucumber, peeled, grated, and drained
  • 1 cup plain yogurt, drained
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Lemon Rice

  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • Juice of ½ lemon (about 1 tablespoon)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)

For the Cucumber & Tomato Salad

  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced or halved
  • 1 cup diced cucumber, drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Optional Garnishes

  • Hummus
  • Crumbled feta
  • Chopped dill or parsley
  • Sumac
  • Warm pita bread

Instructions

Make the Meatballs

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray.
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix ground meat, onion, garlic, egg, feta, Greek seasoning, and salt until combined.
  3. Form into 14–20 meatballs and place on prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake 10–14 minutes until browned and cooked through.

Make the Tzatziki

  1. Mash garlic with salt into a paste.
  2. In a bowl, combine garlic paste, drained cucumber, yogurt, mint, dill, pepper, and olive oil.
  3. Stir well and adjust seasoning. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Make the Lemon Rice

  1. In a bowl, stir cooked rice with lemon juice and salt.
  2. Taste and adjust lemon or salt if needed.

Make the Salad

  1. Combine tomatoes, cucumber, olive oil, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Stir gently and set aside.

Assemble

  1. Divide lemon rice into bowls.
  2. Top with meatballs, tzatziki, and cucumber tomato salad.
  3. Add desired garnishes and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Drain cucumber well for thick tzatziki.
  • Do not overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
  • Components can be stored separately for meal prep up to 4 days.
  • Beef can be substituted for lamb.
  • Add extra lemon juice for brighter flavor.
