Description

This festive Reindeer Food Recipe (Christmas Puppy Chow) is a sweet, crunchy holiday snack mix made with Chex cereal, pretzels, chocolate, peanut butter, powdered sugar, and Christmas candies. Perfect for gifting, parties, or cozy Christmas snacking!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal

  • 2 cups mini pretzels, broken into smaller pieces

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate (chips, chunks, or bars)

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (or any nut/seed butter)

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup red and green M&Ms

  • 1 cup mini peanut butter cups (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the Rice Chex cereal and broken pretzels. Set aside.

  2. Melt the chocolate and peanut butter together in the microwave in 30-second increments or on the stovetop over low heat. Stir until smooth.

  3. Pour the melted mixture over the cereal and pretzels. Gently stir to coat evenly.

  4. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, or until slightly firm but still stirrable.

  5. Add a layer of powdered sugar to a clean large bowl. Add half of the chilled cereal mix, sprinkle more powdered sugar, then add the remaining mix. Toss gently to coat.

  6. Chill again for 30–60 minutes until fully set.

  7. Add additional powdered sugar ¼ cup at a time until the mixture reaches your preferred coating.

  8. Stir in the M&Ms and peanut butter cups.

  9. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Chilling the mixture before adding powdered sugar helps prevent the chow from becoming overly sweet.

  • Almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter all work well.

  • Add any festive candies you like—peppermint pieces, sprinkles, or mini marshmallows.

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
