Description

Mediterranean Ground Beef Pita Pockets are a quick and flavorful 20-minute dinner made with seasoned ground beef, fresh cucumber-tomato salad, feta cheese, and creamy tzatziki tucked into warm pita bread. Perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, or a fun build-your-own family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Filling:

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 23 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85/15 recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For Assembling:

  • 4 pita pockets
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 12 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 medium cucumber, diced
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ½¾ cup tzatziki sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula.
  4. Stir in cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5–7 minutes until beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed.
  5. Warm pita pockets in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes or microwave for 30 seconds until soft.
  6. Open each pita and fill with cooked ground beef.
  7. Top with lettuce, diced tomatoes, cucumber, feta cheese, and a generous drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add olives or red pepper flakes for extra Mediterranean flavor.
  • Store leftover beef separately in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Keep veggies and pita separate until serving to prevent sogginess.
