Description

This Jalapeño Honey Drenched Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich is the ultimate comfort food with a spicy-sweet twist. Juicy fried chicken, drizzled in sticky jalapeño honey and stacked on a toasted sesame bun — it’s crispy, bold, and downright addictive. Perfect for weeknight dinners, game days, or when you just want to treat yourself!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts or thighs

  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar substitute)

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (or taco seasoning)

For the Coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning

For Frying

  • Vegetable or peanut oil (enough for deep frying)

For Assembly

  • 4 sandwich buns, toasted

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (regular or flavored)

  • 1/3 cup jalapeño honey (or regular honey with fresh jalapeños)

  • Optional toppings: sliced jalapeños, cilantro, or pickles

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning. Add chicken and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for maximum flavor.

  2. Prepare the Coating:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and remaining seasoning. Remove chicken from marinade, shake off excess liquid, and coat each piece thoroughly in the flour mix.

  3. Fry the Chicken:
Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (180°C). Fry chicken for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy. Transfer to a wire rack to drain.

  4. Assemble the Sandwich:
Spread mayonnaise on toasted buns. Place fried chicken on each bun, drizzle generously with jalapeño honey, and add your favorite toppings.

  5. Serve and Enjoy:
Best served hot with a side of coleslaw or fries for the ultimate meal.

Notes

  • For extra heat, mix a pinch of cayenne into the coating.
To make it lighter, air fry the chicken at 375°F for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway.
Don’t skip resting the fried chicken on a wire rack — it keeps that crunch alive!
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven for best texture.
