Description

Creamy, flavorful, and easy to make, this Homemade Butter Chicken is the ultimate comfort food. Perfect with fluffy rice and warm naan, it’s a family favorite ready in under an hour.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs skinless boneless chicken thighs, cut into chunks

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt

  • 3 tbsp oil

  • 3 tbsp butter (divided)

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 1 ½ cups tomato sauce

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp sweet paprika

  • 1 tsp curry powder

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Serve with naan bread and steamed rice


Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, mix chicken with salt, garlic powder, paprika, curry powder, and Greek yogurt. Let sit for 15 minutes.

  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken 8–10 minutes until golden. Remove and set aside.

  3. Make the Sauce Base: Reduce heat to medium. Melt 1 tbsp butter, then sauté garlic and onion until soft.

  4. Build the Sauce: Stir in tomato sauce and sugar. Simmer 2–3 minutes. Return chicken to skillet.

  5. Creamy Finish: Pour in heavy cream, add spices, and simmer on low for 10 minutes. Stir in remaining butter.

  6. Serve & Enjoy: Top with parsley. Serve hot with rice and naan.

Notes

Adjust cayenne for preferred spice level.
Chicken breasts can be used instead of thighs.
