Description
French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes combine savory ground beef, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese on toasted buns for the ultimate comfort food dinner.
Ingredients
-
1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
-
1 large onion, thinly sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon soy sauce
-
1 teaspoon dried thyme
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
4 hamburger buns
-
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
-
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
-
Add sliced onions and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring often, until golden and caramelized.
-
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
-
Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
-
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
-
Toast the hamburger buns.
-
Scoop beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, top with shredded Swiss cheese, and cover with the top bun.
-
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
-
Don’t rush the onions—low and slow caramelization gives the best flavor.
Swap Swiss cheese for provolone or mozzarella if you prefer.
The beef mixture can be made ahead and reheated for quick assembly.
