Description

This Christmas Crack Recipe is a sweet, salty, and crunchy holiday favorite made with buttery toffee, melted chocolate, and festive sprinkles. It’s quick to prepare, addictively delicious, and perfect for gifting or sharing during the holidays!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve Saltine crackers (about 3540 crackers) — or substitute with Ritz or graham crackers

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (salted butter works too)

  • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or swap for white, dark, or milk chocolate)

  • Sprinkles or toppings: chopped nuts, crushed peppermints, M&Ms, toffee bits, or flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and lightly grease.

  2. Arrange crackers: Lay Saltine crackers in a single, even layer to cover the entire pan.

  3. Make toffee: In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly and scraping the sides of the pan to prevent crystallization.

  4. Bake: Carefully pour the toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading evenly. Bake for 5 minutes, then remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.

  5. Add chocolate: Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 1-minute bursts, stirring until smooth. Pour over the warm toffee and spread evenly.

  6. Decorate: Sprinkle with holiday toppings before the chocolate sets.

  7. Cool and break: Let cool completely (or chill in the fridge) until set. Once hardened, peel off the foil and “crack” into pieces.

Notes

  • Boil the sugar-butter mixture for a full 3 minutes for the perfect toffee texture.

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the smoothest finish.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 1 week.

  • Freezes well for up to 2 months—layer pieces between parchment paper.
