Ingredients
Chai Latte Base (1 serving):
-
1/2 cup water
-
1/2 cup milk (or plant-based alternative)
-
1 black tea bag or 1 tsp black tea leaves
-
1 tablespoon brown sugar (adjust to taste)
-
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
-
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
-
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
-
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
Pinch of ground black pepper
Spiced Whipped Cream:
-
1/4 cup heavy cream
-
1 tsp honey
-
1/4 teaspoon reserved spice mix
Instructions
-
Make the Spice Mix: Combine the cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper. Reserve 1/4 teaspoon for the whipped cream.
-
Heat the Chai Base: Add water, black tea, brown sugar, and the remaining spice mix to a saucepan. Heat until it begins to simmer gently.
-
Steep: Add milk, reduce heat, and steep for 5 minutes.
-
Strain: Pour through a strainer into a mug to remove spices and tea leaves.
-
Make Whipped Cream: Whisk the heavy cream, honey, and reserved spice mix until soft peaks form.
-
Serve: Spoon or pipe whipped cream on top of the latte and sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
Notes
-
Oat milk or almond milk works beautifully for a dairy-free version.
-
For a stronger flavor, steep the tea a bit longer or use extra tea leaves.
-
Add a drizzle of caramel for an even more festive touch.
