Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
Cream butter and sugar: Beat softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla.
Combine wet and dry: Add flour mixture and sour cream in alternating batches. Mix until just combined.
Fold in apples: Gently fold in chopped apples.
Make crumb topping: Combine topping ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Assemble: Pour cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle evenly with crumb topping.
Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool the cake for 15–20 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
Prepare drizzle: In a saucepan, melt butter. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, milk, and salt. Cook 2–3 minutes until smooth.
Drizzle the cinnamon apple sauce over the cooled cake and serve.
Notes
Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best texture and flavor.
Don’t overmix the batter or your cake may turn out dense.
Drizzle can also be served on the side for dipping or extra flair.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days (or refrigerate up to 5 days).
